Love it
The book itself is a wonderful and simply effective idea.
Unfortunately, upon delivery, there were quality issues and packaging defects. The edges were already bent/damaged, likely due to inadequate packaging. What bothered me most, however, was the upside-down printing of the first page – an obvious printing error. I found it disappointing that this wasn't communicated beforehand. Furthermore, I'm concerned that the material used won't last long in children's hands, and I would have preferred higher-quality materials.
Conclusion: Although the idea is lovely, I would not recommend this book due to the aforementioned flaws.
Computer Engineering for Babies
After I received the product, I have tested it.
I have noticed that when I press the (big round) buttons, the contact was not 100% reliable. In those situations when the LED was supposed to turn on, with the corresponding button(s) pressed the same way, the LED light was glowing intermittently. I like the dimensions of the button(s) but they did not work very reliably (at first). This sucked for a while, but later on, this problem disappeared.
I have also found some non-transient bug.
When
- the product rests and goes to sleep
- then I pick it up and (before pressing any button) I open it up on the "OR" page
- and then press the upper (red) button
then the LED does not switch on.
Imagine that someone picks up the product, flip it to page OR, press the upper red button and nothing happens. Embarassing.
The LED switches on when I press the bottom (yellow) button.
After releasing this bottom yellow button, the upper red button works normally.
Overall, I like the idea but my particular product has some potential for improvement.
"Okay, uh do you have a gift registry I can check?" I asked.
"Don't worry about, it's more a housewarming party. Oh - perhaps you can bring something geeky," was the reply.
"I know just the thing!"
They'll be impressed....
